Future of New York Harbor Waterfront Commission
The Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor has for the past 65 years existed to fight organized crime on the ports of New Jersey and New York but since January 2018, it’s existence has been threatened. New Jersey through its last governor, seeks to withdraw from the commission – a move some argue is not allowed based on its formation through an interstate. In a NY Times article earlier this year, NY lawyer Barry H. Evenchicksaid that he “was convinced then and still am” of the need for the commission because “labor racketeering still goes on.”
